FOURTEEN SUCCESSFUL FISHING OPERATIONS COMPLETED IN ONE DAY

In June, PSL successfully completed fourteen fishing operations in one day in what must be a record for a well services’ company. This would not have been possible, however, without the assistance of potential young engineers, aged from 10 to 16 years, from schools across Scotland.

The fishing operations were performed on a model well by school children at the Young Engineers Club 2007 Celebration of Engineers on the 22 nd June at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow. The event also hosted the Scottish finals of the Young Engineers for Britain.

PSL’s Magnus Wardle, Chief Engineer and Alain Graham, Compliance Engineer, briefed fourteen teams of schoolchildren for two minutes on a ‘fishing’ operation. They then had three minutes to retrieve a ‘fish’ using a magnet on a line. Alain Graham stated, “For the children and teachers this was the first experience of oilfield industry operations and the children showed tremendous interest and enthusiasm in the task. All the teams successfully completed the operation.”

Forty-two schools participated in the series of three minute technology challenges set by twenty-five Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) members who sponsored the event. The event also included a competition for engineering projects produced at their schools. The award winners in this category included An Easy Ski Bike, a Greeenhouse Watering system and a Talking Bus Stop.
